Darjeeling Overview

It is a combo that seems to interest tourists the most while they are in Darjeeling. Being an interesting affair for all ages, this zoo and museum serves its purpose very well. Firstly it is a zoo that reserves many Himalayan animals and some endangered species like the Red Panda. The is also a Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and Museum which displays various items used by Tenzing Norgay for his Mount Everest venture.



Located in the highest point in Darjeeling, Tiger Hill is the best viewpoint for the amazing sunrise that lightens up the Kanchenjunga and the neighboring mountaisn in its golden crimson. It takes around 40 minutes to reach the point and you also have to reach it before sunrise. So, it takes some early wakeup and hassle which is worth the view that you will get at Tiger Hill. The fresh morning air as you make your way to the summit is a refreshing experience away from the banter of city life.



Located around 5 km from the town of Darjeeling is this wonderful spiral uphill that the toy train climbs before heading on to its normal track. The viewpoint is beautiful beyond words and is also a popular stoppage for the tourist while they return from Tiger Hill. The hill has a beautiful garden and a narrow gauge that runs around it. The sight from here is wonderful and probably more magical when it’s a clear sunny day.



It is one of the best offering and an essential part of Darjeeling tourism. It offers you magical rides from Singmari towards the adjacent hills. It passes over the magical tea gardens and offers magical views of the surrounding views. The Cable car provides view of the tea gardens, dense forest, mountain streams, waterfalls and other awesome snow peaks around. The ropeway is open on specific dates which can be checked upon arrival.



Mall is the town center in Darjeeling. This is probably the place where the four different roads meet at one point and it now is a large town square where everyone comes and spend their leisure time. Here you will see the children waving away the pigeons, horses ready for rides, eateries and many cultural shopping centres. You can sit here for hours doing nothing but just day gazing.

The nearest rail is New Jalpaiguri. This is well connected to most of the major cities in India. The town of Darjeeling is approachable from Siliguri, nearly 80 km away, by Darjeeling Himalayan Railway also known as Toy Train. The nearest airport is Bagdodara, near Siliguri. There is regular bus service from Siliguri to Darjeeling which is approximately 70 km away. Bus services are also available from the nearby towns like Kurseong and Kalimpong. Alternatively, you can also drive down to Darjeeling from nearby cities like Siliguri, Kalimpong and Kurseong. The road network is quite good with stunning mountain landscape.
